Monday morning was rough.
This whole month has been somewhat rough. I've been down with this head cold turned sinus infection that I just today finally got antibiotics for, but for all of February it has been kicking my trash and draining my energy. Waking up in the mornings has been the hardest of all, when my head is so full that it threatens to burst at any moment. Add in winter time blues that come from lack of being outdoors and getting that sunny vitamin d, well Monday was, as I say, rough.
It took me hours to get my sick and depressed rear to find any hint of motivation. I knew that I needed to get us out of the house in order to feel better, but it was this horrible battle between my heart and my head that kept sending me back in bed huddling under the covers in the fetal position.
FINALLY I used every single ounce of energy I had to force myself into getting dressed and loading us all in the car. After swinging by the drive-thru for a very essential iced coffee to give me another kick, we headed to one of our favorite places in the world: the canyon.
Fresh air, muddy boots, wandering new paths, throwing rocks in the river, catching sweet glimpses of the sun. We spent hours hiking around and when we left I felt like a new woman. I am the poster child for someone who needs sun and outdoors in order to thrive.
I know I say it so much that I've beaten it into the ground by now, but I really can't get enough of this age and how much fun my little guy is. As we hiked along we carried on conversations and we laughed and played. We watched Rockie digging for bugs and jumping through the bushes and we were all just very in our element. Outdoors and having adventures together, that's our element. It was grand.
Sometimes I take this valley for granted while I'm dreaming of the city or the beach. But being within twenty-minutes of these gorgeous hikes, canyons, rivers, rock climbs and adventures is kind of the cake you guys.
Come on spring. Come. On. Spring.
